Uh, speech recognition was out long before Power Macintoshes. I'm pretty sure it was available with System 7.0, though it may have been 7.1.

PlainTalk speech recognition first shipped with the Macintosh Centris 660AV and the Quadra 840AV, and used AT&T DSP hardware built into the systems

    hi peter, hi no one,

Yes, I know it was available before Power Macintosh running on the DSPs onCentris 660AV and Quadra 840AV. But this is exactly what the paper in the "Power MacTrivia" says.
So I am presuming PlainTalk was originally started as a project for Power Macintosh within the Rock-n-Roll team ;-) But Apple couldn't wait for PowerPC, so the project for Cyclon (Quadra 840AV) and Catalyst (Centris 660AV) have started. And the team working on Cyclone+Catalyst has managed to port the PlainTalk on Apple RealTime OS (on DSP) ;-)
